CAST-TX Six Sigma Seminar

Highlights:

Is Six Sigma merely another buzzword under pseudo quality control? What is Six Sigma? What is Lean? Why is Six Sigma embraced by more and more enterprises, government and non-profit organizations? What can I gain through Six Sigma? This seminar tries to answer the above questions. It is an introduction to the history, key knowledge areas, and benefits of applying Six Sigma. Participants will understand how to build the foundation to survive in the Six Sigma arena; and how to become a highly competitive Six-Sigma practitioner to lead the business performance.

Background:

Six Sigma was pioneered by Bill Smith in 1986. Originally, it was defined as a metric for measuring defects and improving quality; and a methodology to reduce defect levels below 3.4 Defects Per Million Opportunities (DPMO). AlliedSignal and GE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GEbecame early adopters of Six Sigma and reported benefits of over US$300 million during its first year of application. Their CEOs, Larry Bossidy and Jack Welch, played a vital role in popularizing Six Sigma. Other major organizations who claim to have benefited from Six Sigma implementation are Ford , Caterpillar , Microsoft , Raytheon , Quest Diagnostics , Seagate Technology , Siemens , Merrill Lynch , Lear , 3M and many more.

Six Sigma has now grown beyond defect control. It can be defined as a methodology to manage process variations that cause defects, defined as unacceptable deviation from the mean or target; and to systematically work towards managing variation to eliminate those defects The objective of Six Sigma is to deliver world-class performance, reliability, and value to the end customer. Speaker: Zhenya Huang - Transition Manager, Six Sigma Black Belt, Motorola, Inc. Mr. Huang manages New Product Launching at Motorola and serves as the Regional Director of Motorola Asian Business Council in Texas. Mr. Huang is a Motorola-certified Six Sigma Black-Belt, managing global DSS programs and mentoring global Belt candidates. He has been advocating as well as teaching Six Sigma methodology at the universities in China and the US. His formal education includes a B.Sc. in Materials Science from Tianjin University, a M.S. in Mechanical Science from University of Maryland, and a MBA in Supply Chain Management from University of Dallas. Mr. Huang received certification and PhD candidacy in Reliability at the University of Maryland. He resides in Frisco with his wife and an eighteen-month old son.
