Art Cannon will present and discuss on trends and directions of Open Source software.

The basic tenet of any business is to make profit by capitalizing on market opportunities when they present themselves. A visionary may be able to see the convergence of various technologies and accurately predict a paradigm shift. It is left to the business person to know who to listen to, and when and how to act. It is much easier to do this if one remains flexible (open to new ideas) and has a business information technology process which accommodates change. When executed properly, use of disruptive technology can bring both a tactical and strategic advantage.

Acquisition costs can be minuscule compared to operating costs. The LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP, Perl or Python) software stack is only the beginning. The presentation and discussion will include an examination of why Open Source adoption will and does vary by geography.

The seminar will be 1.5 hours long. There will be lecture, interactive discussion, and Q&A. Attendees are expected to participate fully in this seminar.

Art Cannon brings over twenty-eight years of varied experience, in manufacturing, development, education, manufacturing engineering and sales. He is a Certified IT Specialist and Board Certification member in the IBM Global Solution Center (GSC), located in Roanoke, Texas. Art has been following Linux since September 11th, 1992. Beginning in May of 1998 Linux became his core focus, where he acts as a strategist, evangelist and architect. In the fall of 1998, it was Art who proposed that IBM support four distributions of Linux worldwide. His focus for the past three years has been the Linux desktop. He has degrees in Music and Electronics.
