Its objective is to aid Asian Americans in achieving their leadership potential in work and community affairs. Leadership Assessment and Mentoring Program Committee Chair: Tuan Nguyen History of the Leadership Assessment and Mentoring Program The Leadership Assessment and Mentoring Program (LAMP) is a community-based program of CIE/USA-DFW. Its objective is to aid Asian Americans in achieving their leadership potential in work and community affairs. Since its inception, LAMP has successfully held many workshops, seminars, and training camps for members of CIE and the public at large. LAMP’s first seminar was “Leadership in America - Principles, Practices & Politics,” held in June 1999. Dr. Robert E. Bradford of RHR International spoke at this event. In May 2000, LAMP and the Asian American Women’s Business Council (AWBC) held a “How to Make Powerful and Persuasive Presentations” workshop. Co-sponsors of the event included Raytheon Company, Texas Instruments, Inc., and the Association of the Chinese Professionals. Ms. Vanna Novak, a nationally recognized speaker, delivered a lecture “At the Heart of Leadership - Building Quality Relationships.” In May 2001, LAMP and the School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas sponsored a one-day “Become an Effective American-Style Manager” seminar. In June 2002, LAMP focused on “How to Enrich Leadership and Communication Skills.” Three speakers gave insights of how to become an effective leader, how to put humor into a presentation, and the importance of solid e-mail communication. In May 2003, LAMP assembled a panel to discuss the fundamentals of U.S. government and how it interacts with its citizens. The program also included excellent lectures on “ Powerful Presentations and Beyond” and “Perpetual Pursuit of Excellence.” In May 2004, LAMP “Passport to Success” half-day event featured a distinguished group of lecturers. Ms. Linda Rusk, Corporate Global Diversity Leader for Raytheon Company, enlightened the audience on leadership and diversity. Mr. Dean Lindsay, founder of The Progress Agent, provided the blueprint needed to strengthen commitment towards organizational goals. Ms. JoAnn Georgostathis of Raytheon Company revealed three important keys to fulfill one’s destiny. Ms. Pauline Shirley, President of Executive Solutions Unlimited, stimulated the audience with techniques on delegating effectively. In May 2005, LAMP “ Path to Excellences” Workshop was funded by the Raytheon Company and co-sponsored by the Texas Dragon Toastmaster Club, the National Taiwan University Alumni Association . This half-day event focused on skills that can propel the audience to a higher level of professional leadership. Mr. Mike Allgeier, VP of Precision Technologies and Components for Raytheon Network Centric Systems opened the session with emphasis on the importance of continuous professional and personal development. Mrs. Lorri Allen, author of Media Savvy, coached participants to make sure their communication - verbal, written, and unspoken are understandable and precise as those delivered on the 6’oclock newscast. Ms JoAnn Georgostathis, Director of Development at High Point Church, helped the audience to explore key components of excellence that will affect their professional and personal life. Mr Sanjeev Venkatesan, a Senior Principal Software Engineers at Raytheon Network Centric Systems, stimulated the audience with self-branding to differentiate and position themselves to succeed among their peers. |
